The Jerusalem Vision
10 Jerusalem churches. 10 years of support. 50 synod mission partners.
10 Jerusalem churches. A Jerusalem church is a new start or redevelopment in the most marginalized parts of our synod. The churches already have a brick-and-mortar building and there is clarity from the neighborhood about what kind of church God is calling the neighborhood into. Where there is no building, there is consensus from the Bishop, the Director of Evangelical Mission and the Synod Mission Table that a new start is workable and growth likely.
10 years of support. Each Jerusalem church receives $50,000 in mission support annually for 10 years from the fund. These funds are used exclusively for the pastor’s salary and benefits at 1/2 time. During this ten-year period, pastors and their congregations will be supported by experts in resource development, community organizing, non-profit administration, and coached on how to form mission clusters. Where mission is growing and ministry is thriving, the synod will actively partner with the Jerusalem church to locate and develop resources for that pastor to move incrementally to full-time.
50 synod mission partners. Each Jerusalem church will partner with 5 of our synod churches for the sake of shared learning, depth of relationship, resource sharing, entrepreneurship, ingenuity and public voice.
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7
